NginguThembi means “I am Thembi” (full name: Thembilihle) in isiZulu. I received this name in June 2013, when I arrived in South Africa for the first time. Meaning “good hope,” this name represents a nod to my middle name, “Hope,” as well as, I think, to my idealistic consciousness. As much as I am Liz, I am Thembi.
This blog represents a platform for me to reflect on my study of South African history, as well as for relevant debates in sports history, digital humanities, and other fields which interest me. Blogging holds amazing potential for opening up dialogues between different parties separated by wide distances (physical or otherwise), so please feel free to comment, challenge, and engage with me on this blog!
